There is a horse race in France today but I don’t care
October 5, 2008
Where I live the weather is fine and bright but the rest of the country has severe weather warnings in place. I don’t know if a full day’s racing will be had but I will give some tips anyway.
It is hard to oppose Nelson’s Spice at Huntingdon (3:50) as he continues to improve – even the steep rise in weight may not prove a great hindrance.
Rivington Pike looks the choice for the 4:00 at Kelso and while Victorias might be a danger I think she makes a decent lay bet.
It may be best to have a place bet on Shore Thing in the 3:05 at Uttoxeter while Ocean Du Moulin should have a chance at 4:10.
That’s it for now. Good luck and be careful with your money.

Newmarket hosts the Cambridgeshire Handicap today and punters will pile money on. Sensible punters will look to other races if they want a safer bet.
Sri Putra may have what it takes to land the Tattersalls Timeform Million at 2:45 while Darjina might get over her seconditis at 3:15.
With maiden race and large fields, Redcar offers no good opportunities for backers but they should consider Scuffle (3:35) and Straight Sets (5:20) decent lay bets.
Over the jumps, Fontwell has little to offer but an each way bet on Just Beware at 5:10 might pay off.
I have a love-hate relationship with all weather tracks. I have always found Kempton particular difficult to find winners at so I have decided to lay Happy Forever in the nursery at 3:45.
That’s it for now. Good luck and be careful with your money.

Did anyone back my 25/1 winner?
September 28, 2008
Tir Gra surprised even me on Sunday by winning at odds of 25/1. Sometimes systems work out and this was one of them. As I said last time, you need to have a minimum of eight runners and no more than twelve, two horses vying for favourite at short odds and a clear third favourite at a good price.
It was also nice to see Sixties Icon and Metaphoric oblige at Ascot on an entertaining afternoon’s racing.
Monday’s meetings are at Bath, Brighton and Windsor but with only a few selections worth a bet.
Desperate Dan is the sole eye catcher at Bath and he should win the 2:40 while Orange River should be considered for a lay bet in the 4:10.
The first race at Windsor should go to Tubby Isaacs who continues to impress and should find the extra weight no problem.
That’s it. Good luck and be careful with your money.
